1 Chronicles 3

v. 17-55

v. 1-24

When we read through Ezra’s account of David’s descendants, we see that he dedicated much space to recording the first generation of David’s sons by seven or eight different women, not including the sons he had by his concubines.

When Ezra continues past the first generation, he traces the kingly lineage through Solomon, the son of Bath-shua, or Bathsheba, the woman David lusted after, took advantage of, and stole from one of his most trusted soldiers. He even committed murder in order to have her. Despite David’s sin, God used this woman to leave a legacy. The Messiah would be born as one of her descendants.

David reigned for 7-and-a-half years in Hebron and 33 years in Jerusalem. Ezra will recount the transition later in his account.
